Stop Smoking Hypnosis Vs. Cold Turkey

Which Should You Choose?

If I look back at the long list of past quit smoking hypnosis clients in Melbourne, most of them had already tried to quit many times before finally landing on my doorstep. And that’s not surprising, since statistically speaking the cold turkey method is the least sucessful of all.

If you’re in the hot seat I bet you already know that you’ll never quit unless you actually WANT to quit. That is, it’s not enough to try to quit because somebody else is pressuring you, be that your doctor, your significant other or your family.

In fact if you are getting pressure from outside sources these people may not even realise that by pressuring you, they are making your job that much harder.

This is because by nature, we don’t like to be told what to do. Unless you are a very submissive person and do everything you are told your mind will fight back from this pressure to quit. In fact you will actually gain more resolve to smoke.

This is a way of telling others you are an adult and can’t be pushed around. Incidentally, we don’t JUST do this with smoking. Think overeating gambling, shopping and the rest. When you’re partner says ‘should you be eating that…?’ what do we go and do? You know the rest.

So firstly, we have the habit itself. When you do something repeatedly many times per day, every day, over a time span of years then it becomes automatic. All of your habits are formed in your subconscious mind. Habits are formed to help you so you don’t have to think too much about an activity at any given time.

So once you learn to ride a bike, it becomes automatic – all those things you had to get used to, such as peddling, steering and finding balance, all just happen automatically.

And before you go blaming nicotine….

Nicotine is not the main cause of your smoking habit.

The typical success rate of nicotine patches is 10%-15%. So this means that 85%-90% of people do not stop smoking when they are still getting their fix of nicotine
from the patches. This is because it’s the mental and emotional habit that’s the real problem.

So if you want to quit smoking, you may want to use a method that changes this habit at the subconscious level. Have you ever felt there is a struggle going on when you try and quit smoking? Many smokers do.

While one part of you wants to stop smoking (your conscious mind) another part of you(your subconscious mind) is still in the habit of smoking. Until you remove this subconscious habit you will continue to struggle to quit smoking.

Quit smoking hypnosis in Melbourne works by providing your subconscious mind with new ways of thinking, feeling and behaving as a non-smoker that overwrite the old ways of being a smoker.

The number of sessions you will need will depend on a number of things, including whether your smoking is purely habit-driven or whether it is serving as a crutch for underlying anxieties.

If you’ve tried everything else, contact a clinical hypnotherapist – this is definitely worth a try!
