As a Melbourne weight loss hypnotherapist my approach is really focused on developing a good relationship with your body, because without that you will really struggle to maintain a healthy weight. In fact the way you feel about your body plays a big role in your overall health and happiness.

If you’re struggling with weight issues it’s probably a good bet that you don’t have a great relationship with your body either. And why would you, when your subconscious mind is bombarded daily with images of supposedly ‘perfect’ (read: airbrushed) size zero stick insects? It’s no wonder you think to yourself: ‘I’m unacceptable because I don’t look like that.’

It’s a pretty common problem and you might think by saying ‘I hate my fat, dimply thighs’ that will somehow miraculously cause you to get up and do something about it. Not true. When you focus on what you hate about your body, you get EVEN MORE of what you hate. It’s not a conspiracy; that’s just how your mind works.

Now, I hear many of my clients saying to me: ‘Sonia, listening to your MP3s made me really angry. It made me angry because I can’t possibly love myself the way I look right now…it’s never gonna happen!’. And to some degree I can understand the frustration that comes with trying to pretend you’re okay with the way you look.

But that’s just it; I’m not asking you to pretend that you like being overweight. I’m not asking you to pretend that it’s okay that you can’t fit into your clothes. What I am suggesting is that your body is not your enemy – it is a part of you and a very useful part at that. It has been with you since you were born, assisting you in all sorts of ways – why fight with it? Why shoot the messenger?

Your poor dejected body is not the enemy here; it is always trying to communicate with you, only many of you have become so angry with it that it doesn’t get a chance to help you!

Think about it; when was the last time you really listened to your body? Most of us are so focused on what we ‘should’ be doing that we are out of touch with what we really need…from our bodies, and from life in general. Instead of fighting your body and looking for the next quick fix or diet fad, why not start working with your weight loss hypnotherapist to accept your body and treat it like a friend?

I can tell you right now you will have much more success if you try it. I have seen enough clients to know that this is true. So I leave you with these parting words:
